Start Sequence

All commands and count downs of the race committee will be called out over VHF channel 69.

There is a short count down to the count down that goes as follows:

  • “All Humber racing boats, All Humber racing boats, we will be running two laps on a windward/leeward course, count down will begin in 30 seconds”
  • “20 seconds”
  • “10 seconds”
  • “3 minutes to start”.

The count down to the start then begins and goes as follows:

  • “Two minutes”
  • “One minute”
  • “30 seconds”
  • “20 seconds”
  • “10 seconds”
  • “9”
  • “8”
  • “7”
  • “6”
  • “5”
  • “4”
  • “3”
  • “2”
  • “1”
  • “Start”

Notes:

In order to squeeze in as many races as possible, the race committee may not wait for stragglers. If you are in last place in a race and much more than a leg behind the other boats, aborting the current race and returning to the start line will ensure that you are ready for the start of the next race. Aborting in this circumstance is not considered a "Did Not Finish" (DNF) - points will be awarded for a last place finish.
