Maintenance Activities

The Maintenance Committee is set up to plan, schedule and coordinate both the routine maintenance during the sailing season as well as the activities to prepare the club boats for launch and, at end of season, the haul-out and winter storage of the fleet. It is our mission to accomplish these goals while promoting opportunities for learning and an atmosphere of camaraderie.

However, the success of the club maintenance activities relies heavily on the active and ongoing participation of the Club members who volunteer their time and enthusiasm toward keeping our boats not only seaworthy but also well cared for in terms of overall appearance and performance.

Why get involved? - Here are the top ten reasons?

  • You can learn all about the maintenance requirements of sailboats.
  • You'll get to know lots of other club members ? folks to go sailing with.
  • You'll have a chance to do a little work and socialize at the same time.
  • You can easily accumulate your club volunteer hours.
  • You'll know how to handle emergency maintenance situations when out on the water.
  • You'll get to play in the icy water during spring and fall for the annual launch and haul-out activities.
  • You'll contribute to pride of ownership in the fleet.
  • You might get to climb a mast or haul out an engine.
You'll be encouraging other club members to treat the boats with care and respect.

And the number one reason?
You'll earn the right to complain (or make suggestions that is) if the boats are not properly maintained.

In addition to the pre-season and post-season glut of frantic activity there is also the scheduled General Maintenance days which will take place throughout the sailing season on a designated Saturday morning of each month during sailing season (Check the Club Calendar for actual dates.)

Look out for our regular communications regarding maintenance volunteer opportunities via the weekly newsletter, special emails and the club website calendar. Oh and don't worry, there are all kinds of tasks for all levels of strength and skill - basically something for everyone. No prior experience is required; a member of the Maintenance Committee, experienced club members, and club staff will be working alongside of you and will show you what needs to be done.

If you have any questions, concerns, or (ahem) suggestions please contact Ian McCormick - the Maintenance Committee Chairman or one of the Maintenance Committee members listed below:
